A diagnosis makes all the difference3
A 14-year-old with severe combined immunodeficiency developed an infection that progressed from a headache to seizures requiring a medically induced coma.
After multiple hospitalizations, more than 40 diagnostic tests and a brain biopsy, there was still no clear answer on what was wrong.
Finally, a mNGS CSF test was ordered.
Within hours, mNGS identified a bacterial pathogen (Leptospira), despite previous negative microbiological testing. 48 hours after treatment started, the patient was conscious. He was home and back to normal within a month – thanks to the accurate diagnosis mNGS provided.
